2014 Highlights

As we welcome 2015, we can’t help but look back at an incredible year for Yuba-Sutter United Way Some highlights:

Our Annual Meeting and Awards Breakfast, on May 14 at The Refuge Restaurant, set a record with 130 people in attendance to hear reports on the current status of your local United Way, to install officers and to give out annual honors.  (This year’s event is May 13 at The Plaza Room at Hillcrest Plaza.)

The Community Fair, on May 17, had about 300 in attendance to meet with nearly 30 local non-profit agencies concerning available services for the under-served population in our community. (The 2015 event is on May 16 at Gauche Aquatic Park in Yuba City.)

On June 21, the United Way Day of Action Food Drive took in more than 12,000 pounds of food which was distributed to nearly a dozen local food closets.  (This year’s Day of Action will be on June 20 at multiple locations in Yuba, Sutter and Colusa counties.)

On September 12, we participated in the incredibly well-run Celebrity Golf Tournament by Colusa Casino Resort at Peach Tree Golf & Country Club.  Net proceeds of more than $52,000 were donated to Yuba-Sutter United Way.

The 17th Annual Elegant Soiree Wine & Culinary Extravaganza, on October 4, drew more than 350 people to the Walnut Avenue Community Center.  Wines from some 70 wineries were poured and 20 restaurants and bakeries provided scrumptious samples.  (This year, the Soiree is set for October 3 at the Walnut Avenue Community Center.)

On October 25, the Third Annual Live United-Run United Spooktacular River Run, had more than 300 5k/10k runners and walkers registered to take part, despite the inclement weather. (Halloween day 2015 is the date for this year’s run at Gauche Aquatic Park in Yuba City.)

The first ever, Golden Autumn Wine Festival was held at Bishop’s Pumpkin Farm on November 1.  It featured 20 area wineries, most from the North Sierra Wine Trail wineries.  Nearly200 people attended the event. (Date TBD)

We also, that same weekend (October 31-November 2), were on hand for the annual Sikh Parade and Festival, where we rolled out our beautiful new Yuba-Sutter United Way tent!  Attendees were very generous in their donations!  (This year, the event will happen October 30 through November 1.)

The annual Turkey Drive also hit record levels.  Through donated turkeys and cash, we distributed 466 turkeys, 223 hams and holiday dinner fixings to 11 local non-profit agencies serving needy families.  This annual event is collaboration between the local Results Radio stations and Yuba-Sutter United Way. (This year’s event will be at 11 locations on 11 different dates in November in Yuba, Sutter and Colusa counties.)
